Diana chose to set up her studio in her home in the heart of the
Frank Lloyd Wright Historical District of Oak Park, Illinois.
The advantages of a home studio can not be overstated:
- Ease of parking and access
- A relaxed atmosphere
- A wealth of props and backgrounds
For Diana's portrait clients, coming to a Home Studio is a pleasurable
experience. She has heard many times, that the same 2 yr. old she
just successfully captured in a fun and relaxed sitting, was a screaming
& crying bundle at a department store or competitor's studio. She
is extremely patient, even with the most active children. Diana
recommends choosing a sitting time when the child is rested and
happy. After a successful sitting, Diana may show her little subjects
various household pets, in exchange for great behavior. For outdoor
portraits, she takes them to area parks and private gardens for
a variety of backdrops.
Several art directors have commented about saving money on a commercial
shoot because there was no need to hire a prop stylist to rent or
purchase props. If there are certain props that Diana herself doesn't
own, a neighbor is called to lend them. Diana charges a modest prop
search fee only if a large shoot needs many props. There have been
times in the middle of setting up a shot, when the art director
or Diana herself decided that another prop is needed, and she merely
goes to a cupboard to retrieve the perfect item to complete the
composition. Additionally, the combination of period, quality woodwork,
vaulted ceilings, and interesting nooks in Diana's home provide
a canvas for capturing many moods and periods.
